BENNETT'S MILL COVERED BRIDGE - SOUTH SHORE, KENTUCKY

                                                                                                TYGART'S  CREEK
                                                                                               GREENUP COUNTY
                                                                                                      BUILT 1872 *

Length - 160' - S. of South Shore.. KY7 S. 8.5 miles from jct with US23 in South Shore, E. on KY1215 100' to the bridge. *It is quite possible that the Bennett's built an earlier span here in 1855-6, perhaps an open wooden span that only lasted 15 years or so. This would explain much of the dissension with various recorded dates. Rebuilt Nov 2003, the refurbishment process, salvaging only 15% of the original material, used yellow pine timbers and poplar siding. The bridge was finished with oak flooring and roofing shingles. Restoration topped the million dollar mark. Posted to the National Register of Historic Places on March 26, 1976. Open to through traffic. Truss type - Only surviving example of  Covered Wheeler Truss.
