BUILT - 1858

Length - 115' .... Alabama St Rt-77 SE 6.8 miles from jct with AL21 in Talladega, L. on Harrell Ln. 0.1 miles to the bridge. Bridge is on an old Socopatoy Indian Trail. Bridge on private property. Condemned by the state in the 1960s and the approaches were removed as overall maintenance remained minimal. Bridge is currently eligible for addition to the National Register of Historic Places. Closed to motor traffic. Truss Type - Combination of Covered Single Span of Howe Truss and Queenpost Through Truss.

HORTON MILL COVERED BRIDGE - ONEONTA, ALABAMA


















CALVERT PRONG OF THE LITTLE WARRIOR RIVER
BLOUNT COUNTY
BUILT - 1934

Length - 220' .... NNE of Oneonta. AL75 NNE 5.0 miles from jct with US231 in Oneonta, W. on Horton Mill Rd. 250' to the bridge. At 70', it is the highest covered bridge above a river in USA. Construction was led by Talmedge Horton, a family decendant of Thurman Horton. It took a 15-man crew 1 1/2 years to complete the project. The crew included foreman Zelma C. Tidwell, who helped in building three other bridges in Blount County. Bridge was rehabilitated in 1974 & 2013.  At 70 feet (21m), it is the nations' highest covered bridge above any waterway. Posted to the National Register of Historic Places on December 29, 1970. Open to motor traffic. Truss Type - Covered Two Span Town Lattice Through Truss.

EASLEY/ROSA COVERED BRIDGE - ONEONTA, ALABAMA





















DUB BRANCH OF THE CALVERT PRONG OF THE LITTLE WARRIOR RIVER
BLOUNT COUNTY
BUILT - 1927

Length - 83' .... NW of Oneonta. US231 N. 1.7 miles from jct with AL75 in Oneonta, W. on Easley Bridge Rd. 1.9 miles to the bridge. Built by a crew led by foreman Forrest Tidwell and his nephew Zelma C. Tidwell. Until the renovation in 2012, other than occasional repair work, the bridge had been in continuous use since it was constructed. Posted to the National Register of Historic Places on August 20, 1981. Open to motor traffic. Truss Type - Covered Town Lattice Through Truss.
