KIDWELL COVERED BRIDGE - JACKSONVILLE, OHIO

BUILT - 1880
Length - 96'.... SSW of Jacksonville, Dover Township. OH13 S. 1.7 miles from jct with 1st St. on the W. side of Jacksonville, W. on Monserat Rd. 0.2 miles to the bridge. Built by August Borneman of Hocking Valley Bridge Works of Lancaster, Ohio. Named for the Kidwell family which operated a saw mill and grist mill about 1/4 mile north along the creek. Temporarily closed to traffic in 1978 due to damage from over weight truck. Then the bridge has been stabilized, renovated and structurally strengthened by the County Engineer's office of Athens County, Ohio. Re-opened to through traffic. Posted to the National Register of Historic Places on April 11, 1977. Truss Type - Covered Single Span Howe Through Truss
