At one point alleged to have been built in 1812 by James Moore II, father of the founder of nearby Bucknell University, which at the time would have made it the nation's oldest covered bridge, and it was widely promoted as such on postcards and tourist brochures, Later research in the 1980s proved it to have been built in 1830 instead.
