ERB'S COVERED BRIDGE- AKRON, PENNSYLVANIA

BUILT - 1887*

Length- 80' ... WNW of Akron. PA772 NW 2.5 miles from jct with PA272 S. of Akron, N. on Picnic Woods Rd. 0.8 miles, continue N. on Erbs Bridge Rd. 0.4 miles to the bridge. Built by John G. Bowman at a cost of $1744. *There was a previous bridge at this location built in 1849; but evidently by May of 1887 the bridge was either no longer there or was no longer structurally sound for Lancaster County Commissioners visited this site and approved the new bridge to be built. The bridge is named for the Erb family who owned a large tract of land in this area. Bridge was posted to the National Register of Historic Places on December 10, 1980. Open to through traffic. Truss Type -  Covered Single Span, Double Burr Arch with the addition of steel hanger rods.
