Length - 101'... In Uhlerstown, Tinicum Township. PA32 S. 200' from Bridge St. (bridge to New Jersey), W. on Uhlerstown Hill Rd. 0.3 miles to the bridge. Less than a mile west of Frenchtown, N.J. Built by Mahon C. Lear at a cost of $2236.75. (Research shows there was a bridge previously on this site although evidently it needed replaced for some reason) The bridge was named after Michael Uhler a local resident who was a canal builder, the village postmaster, and was also the owner of the majority of businesses in the near area. The purpose of the bridge construction was to cross the Delaware Canal by Lock #18. Bridge was rehabilitated in 1985. The Delaware Canal was first opened in 1832 and although it reached its peak shipping in 1855, the canals stayed in operation until the early 1930s. According to the National Park Service, it was the longest-lived canal in the country. Bridge is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Bridge is open for through traffic.
