RAPPS DAM COVERED BRIDGE - PHOENIXVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA

BUILT - 1866

Length - 106' ... W. of Phoenixville, East Pikeland Township. PA23 NW 0.9 miles from jct with PA113 in Phoenixville, SW on Rapps Dam Rd. 0.3 miles to the bridge. Built by Benjamin F. Hartman. Named for George Rapp, who operated the nearby mill, known as Snyder's Mill.  Rehabilitated in 2011, and 2014 for semi-truck damage. Closed 04-2014 due to semi-truck ripping out the support beams. Rehabilitated in 1999 for flood damage. Bridge presently closed due to another oversized vehicle damage in July 2021, and then more damage by flooding waters of Tropical Storm Ida  on 9/1/2021. Posted to the National Register of Historic Places on June 18, 1973. Temporarily closed to traffic. Truss Type - Covered Single Span, Double Burr Arch with addition to steel hanger rods.

SNYDER MILL
BUILT - 1780
 
Snyder Mill was operated by George Rapp during the time the Rapp Dam covered bridge was being built. The bridge provided access to the mill.
