UNION COVERED BRIDGE - PARIS, MISSOURI























 ELK FORK SALT RIVER
MONROE COUNTY
BUILT - 1871

Length - 120' .... SW Paris, Jackson Township. US24 W. 6.0 miles from jct with MO15 on the N. side of Paris, S. on CR C 3.4 miles, W. on SR C Spur 0.3 miles to the bridge on the S. side of the road. Built by Joseph C. Elliott of Payson, Illinois for a sum of $5500.  Named after the nearby Union Church. Damaged by flood in 1967, was later repaired using salvaged timbers from the nearby Mexico Covered Bridge, which had been destroyed in the same flood. Closed to traffic in 1970. Rehabilitated in 1987-1988, restored in 2019. Posted to the National Register of Historic Places on June 15, 1970. Closed to motor traffic. Truss Type - Covered Double Burr Arch Through Truss.

LOCUST CREEK COVERED BRIDGE - MEADVILLE, MISSOURI

BUILT - 1868

Length - 151' ... E. of Meadville, US36 E. 2.8 miles from jct with MO139 just S. of Meadville, N. on Danube Dr. 1.0 miles, E. on Dart Rd. 0.5 miles. Park & walk E. about 400 yds to the bridge. Built by the firm of Bishop and Eaton at an approximate cost of $5500. At first the bridge was used only for wagon, horse, and pedestrian traffic, in the early 1900s the bridge came to be used for automotive traffic as part of Missouri Route 8, the first transcontinental highway in the United States. It was bypassed with the completion of  U.S. Route 36 in 1930. After World War II, the course of Locust Creek was changed and the bridge remained spanning a dry creek bed. During the time of the activity of the bridge, it was a popular fishing and swimming spot, During this time period, as a boy, who lived in a nearby community, General John J. Pershing, a famous General, veteran of the Spanish-American war, and a top general in World War I, was known to visit this bridge. Bridge was restored in 2002.  Posted to the National Register of Historic Places on May 19, 1970. Closed to motor traffic. Truss Type - Covered Howe Through Truss.

MARY'S/LITTLE MARY'S RIVER COVERED BRIDGE - CHESTER, ILLINOIS




















 LITTLE MARY'S RIVER
RANDOLPH  COUNTY
BUILT - 1854

Length - 98' .... In roadside park NE of Chester. IL150 NE 4.2 miles from jct with IL3 in Chester to the park & bridge on the E. side of the road. The bridge was built by Wilhelm Misselhorn from Germany. The bridge was in continuous use from 1854-1930. In 1936, the State of Illinois assumed ownership of the bridge in order to preserve it.  Restored in May 2005. Posted to the National Register of Historic Places on December 31, 1974. Closed to motor traffic. Truss Type - Covered Burr Arch Through Truss.
