CAMPBELL'S COVERED BRIDGE - CAMPOBELLO, SOUTH CAROLINA

BUILT - 1909

Length - 38' ... W. approx. 6 miles from Campobello. W. 4 miles on SR-11 to L. SR-14 2 miles to R. SR-414 1 miles to L. SR-114, 1000' to R. Campbell Covered Bridge Rd., 500' to bridge. Built by Charles Irwin Willis. Named for grist mill owner Alexander Lafayette Campbell who built and maintained a nearby corn mill. The construction of this bridge connected several rural communities and small towns in the immediate vicinity, so that a 25-mile trip had once taken a full day before the bridge was completed could be made in about an hour afterwards. Bridge was restored in 1964 and 1990. Campbell's Covered Bridge is the last remaining covered bridge in South Carolina. It was posted to the National Register of Historic Places on July 1, 2009. It is owned by Greenville County, which closed it to motorized traffic in the early 1980s. Truss Type - Covered four-span, Howe Truss with vertical iron rods and diagonal pine timbers.

DOE RIVER/ELIZABETHTON COVERED BRIDGE - ELIZABETHTON, TENNESSEE

BUILT - 1882

Length - 134' ... In Elizabethton. Elk Av. W. 1 block from jct with US19E, S. on Main St. 1 block, W. on 3rd St. ½ block to the bridge. Constructed at a cost of $3000 by contractor Dr. E.E. Hunter, George Lindsmood and three carpenters. Hunter hired Colonel Thomas Matson, who had engineered the narrow gauge East Tennessee and Western North Carolina  Railroad, to design the bridge and serve as construction chief.  Posted to the National Register of Historic Places on March 14, 1973. Closed to motor traffic. Truss Type - Covered One Span Timber Howe Truss.

BIBLE COVERED BRIDGE - WARRENSBURG, TENNESSEE

BUILT - 1923

Length - 57' ... E. of Warrensburg. Warrensburg Rd. (TN340) SE 1.4 miles from jct with Fish Hatchery Rd. (TN340) in Warrensburg, E. on Warrensburg Rd. (TN349) 1.7 miles to the bridge on the N. side of the road. The E.A. Bible family hired A.A. McLean to build this bridge to improve access to the main road from their farm. At the time, it had no side windows. In 1940, Greene County purchased it for $750. The Greene County Heritage Trust rehabilitated it, including a new exterior covering with three pedimented windows on each side, also roof bracings and a shingle roof. In 1975 it became a historical structure. Restoration of the bridge was completed in the fall of 2004 by the Greene County Highway Department with the help of a grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation. The bridge retains the original wooden and steel truss members from 1923, the original concrete substructure, the original floor. Eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Closed to motor traffic. Truss Type - Covered Queenpost Truss.
